This is a beautiful Larimar cabochon artfully wrapped in a tension forged sterling silver wire wrap. This is a wonderful stone that has a truly unique color pattern. It has a vibrant sky blue color broken up by radiating lines of white and sometimes even splotches of reddish brown. Its origin is also interesting, it can only be found in a small area in the Dominican Republic and is also one of the only precious stones to come out of the Caribbean at all. Its lovely color, combined with its unique origin makes this stone quite valuable. The charming color pattern is highlighted by the swirling waves of sterling silver which securely grasp the stone and really make it pop. 

Metaphysically, larimar cools tempers and calms fears, relieves stress and nurtures the physical and emotional bodies. A stone of clear communication, it provides the strength and courage to speak openly from the heart.

 

My wire work is all done by me in a tension forging technique using a hammer and anvil. I have been using this technique for almost 17 years with great results. I call it tension forging because all that holds the piece securely in the wrap is the tension of the wire. It is a single piece of wire and there is no glue or solder added making it exceedingly organic while still remaining very secure.
