Absolutely beautiful Brazilian Watermelon Tourmaline crystal section artfully tension set in a 14kt gold wire wrap. This gorgeous large crystal slice is polished on both sides while retaining its natural shape and outer rind. The colors of this crystal perfectly embody the name watermelon with its bright lime green rind slowly transforming to a lovely deep rose colored pink center. It also has a wonderful bit of lavender lepidolite on its top. To top off this slice of watermelon heaven is the delicate swirling waves of glowing 14kt gold securely gripping this crystal and adding to its unique beauty. This piece is a perfect example of the meaning of the name tourmaline which actually comes from the Singhalese words "tura mali" which in translation, means something like "stone with mixed colors" which is exactly what this piece is.

My wire work is all done by me in a tension forging technique using a hammer and anvil. I have been using this technique for almost 17 years with great results. I call it tension forging because all that holds the piece securely in the wrap is the tension of the wire. It is a single piece of wire and there is no glue or solder added making it exceedingly organic while still remaining very secure.
